Perfect PocketProjector Companion - The AivX

The AivX DVP-254 is an unfortunate name for what appears to be a sweet, portable media player. It holds a 2.5" hard drive and plays back all kinds of audio and video formats. Further, it has component outputs for HD, and an FM transmitter for in the car.

In the car, it would seem like this would be a good match for a lot of the roof-mount LCDs out there, you could get a nice system going pretty easily and still keep your media portable.

I haven't seen a lot about this yet, but it is available, and it would seem like an absolutely great thing for car installs and for portable projection systems. I would certainly rather spend money on this than a Mac Mini with a touch screen, and it's cheaper anyway.

If anybody thinks of any other great uses for this, let me know. It looks like they're coming with a 3.5" version with better jacks and such too, so keep an eye out.

40GB MP3 Player & Portable Card Reader for $200

It's kind of big, and I doubt the mp3 player is the greatest, but if you have any need to copy off pictures or anything from cards on a regular basis, I haven't seen anything that can touch this. In fact, a lot of just plain USB powered 40GB drives are more than this.

The Vosonic X'S Drive Pro has one touch copying from:

. SmartMedia
. Secure Digital (SD)
. Multimedia Card (MMC)
. Memory Stick (MS)
. Memory Stick Pro (Blue version)
. Compact Flash Type I/ II
. IBM MicroDrive

It has a blue backlit display and only about 2 hours useful battery life, so it wouldn't be a great mp3-only choice, but for the price, and for a lot of people, it seems like a great deal.

You Can Finally be Lobot for Under $250

Just look at it and imagine. You're crankin' the tunes, the phone rings, and the neural link in this bioelectronic headset automatically mutes the music and grabs the call.

Well, almost anyway. The iZon Bluetooth MP3/FM Radio/Mobile Headset w/128 MB SD Card is as close to a cyborg as you're likely to want to be anytime soon, until they team this thing up with Oakley sunglasses with LCD displays.

So let's run down what it does. It's an mp3, Windows media player, FM radio, and a Bluetooth headset that is 1.1 compliant and does Bluetooth Audio Streaming. That does not include what it does to your brains when you strap it on and crank it up.

It's compatible with:
  • Motorola: E398, E680, A768i, V501, V80, V3, V600,
    V600i, V780
  • Nokia: 6260, 6230, 6600, 6820, 7600, 7610
  • Panasonic: X11, X70, X88
  • Pantech: G800
  • Soyn Ericcson: T610, T630, Z600, K700i, P910i
  • Siemens: S65, and more....
To see what our most dedicated readers will do, I'll send $50 to the first reader that sends in a picture of themselves wearing this headset (preferrably utlizing every feature at once).

SRS Klayman Signature Impressions

Well the eBay sale is over for now apparently, but I'm adding a new listing to the SRS site, I think at $400 they're still a great deal.

So I guess that's my review, "a deal at twice the price." I am very impressed by these speakers. I'm no audio reviewer, and I'm sure there are terms for all the impressions I felt, I just don't know them.

The best way I can describe the feeling I got was that the music was much more "present" in the room, a lot like listening to headphones without the stereo image being in my head. It reminded me of the only other time I listened to electrostatics a long time ago, which was nice. And for the first time since I bought some Acoustic Research M1s in college, I feel like I want to get back into just listening to music.

Also, I think the actual construction quality of the speakers is very nice, they look great in the theater room. I'll probably buy three of the center channel speakers now for center and surround, add a Hsu Research subwoofer and I'll be watching Captain Ron the way it was intended in no time.

SRS Klayman Signature Speakers for $200

They're literally blowing out these flat-panel speakers on eBay, and I couldn't help myself. $200 delivered by Fedex Ground, it's an unbelievably low price when you consider they were $1000, and other panels are much, much more.

The reviews are good, and the SRS product page has more, but there weren't many left when I bought, so I thought I'd get them up here fast.

They are best used with a subwoofer, so we'll see what I come up with on that front. I'm going to move my theather out of the living room and upstairs to a dedicated room, and yes, I'm basing the entire idea on some closeout speakers I've never heard. But they look pretty cool, right?

Selling them after all these years on unlod.com so make an offer :)
